kuan yin meditation centre

The Kuan Yin Meditation Centre located in Lismore in Northern New South Wales was established by Subhana Barzaghi who is a teacher in both the Zen and Vipassana traditions. The Dojo was purpose built by Subhana as the first Zen Temple in Australia.

The Centre supports both Vipassana and Zen groups. The Kuan Yin Insight Meditation Group meets on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 pm. The program includes sitting and walking meditation, guided meditation, interviews, Dharma talks and Dharma discussion under the guidance of Ellen Davison, an Insight (Vipassana) Meditation teacher and Zen teacher in the Diamond Sangha lineage. The orientation of the Wednesday evening group is Insight (Vipassana) Meditation.

The Zen Group meets from 6:30 - 8:30 pm on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. The program includes guidance and instruction on Zen meditation practices, chanting, Dharma talks and Dharma discussion. Interviews are also available.

The Kuan Yin Meditation Centre premises are also available for use by other meditation and yoga groups.

The Kuan Yin Meditation Centre is co-ordinated by a committee who also organise monthly Days of Mindfulness which are usually on the third Saturday of each month. Guest Dharma teachers/leaders from different Buddhist traditions are invited to give talks and lead a discussion at the end of the day.

The committee also organises longer retreats.
